March Happenings

We were able to hold the March Business Meeting on the 2nd of March — no snow cancellations or postponements;  and minutes of that meeting will be e-mailed to all members soon.  There were many committee reports and interesting news about our club and State, District and Local happenings in the very near future.

We do need two additional members for the Nominating Committee (the slate needs to be available at the dinner meeting as voting will be in April).  If you are willing to  join JACK WEINMANN on this committee, please contact him or President John Menken as soon as possible.

This is the month when we hope Spring will appear on time and also the month when we “spring forward” and change the clocks on March 8.  And, of course, it is the month in which we celebrate St. Patricks Day.  Thus, the meal at the March 16 meeting will be corned beef and cabbage.  Hope to see everyone there starting around 6 pm, dinner following at 7 pm.

February Meetings

Because of the predicted snowstorm, the business meeting will be POSTPONED until 7 pm on Monday, February 9.  And the snow just continues to come down on Sundays and Mondays.  The February 9 business meeting has been canceled.  Items on the agenda will be brought up at the dinner meeting –– think sunshine.

Hopefully, the snow will not affect our dinner meeting which is still scheduled for Monday, February 16.

On Saturday, January 9, seven of the nine members who volunteered to be trained to use the SPOT vision screener, went to Concord, NH for a three-hour training session.  We plan to have a practice session as soon as we have the screener.  The first vision screening will be held at Moultonborough Academy, for all students in grades 7-12, on Thursday, January 29th.

The goal of the NH Lions Clubs is to screen at least 1,000 students in 2015 with the larger goal of having every child in the state from six months of age to 20 screened in the near future.

AND THE WINNER IS…

On Saturday, December 6, at the Annual Christmas Fair at the Moultonborough Central School, the winning raffle ticket was drawn.  After months of selling tickets in front of Heaths and after a massive mailing campaign, the winning ticket is selected by Katherine Vilie (shown below).

November Dinner Speaker

At the November 17 dinner meeting, after a delicious meat loaf meal, Harry Vogel, the Senior Biologist/Executive Director of the Loon Center gave an interesting and informative slide show presentation on Loons, with an emphasis on the negative effects of lead (especially fishing sinkers and jigs) poising on the loon population.
