Between Friday, October 17 and Friday, October 25 Lions Club members stamped, affixed labels and postage stamps, and stuffed over 6,000 envelopes containing raffle tickets and an explanatory letter. Several people who could not attend either event, stamped envelopes at home and others attended both AND stamped at home. I believe there were 14 or 15 Lions on the first day for over 2,000 envelopes and 12 lions the second Friday for over 4,000 envelopes! Let’s hope that all this effort is rewarded by a fantastic return so that the Club can continue to give scholarships and donations. Also, a great BIG THANKS to all the people who helped and to those we hope will answer the letters with a contribution.
This OCTOBER is a special month for the Moultonborough Lions Club; it is the 50th Anniversary of the beginning of the club. We will be celebrating with a special dinner on Saturday October, 26. The dinner will be catered by Curt’s Caterers, with a sit-down, plated diner of either Baked Stuffed Shrimp or Prime Rib. President Naomi Strickland will be sending out invitations and reservations forms or you can sign up at the October business meeting. The social hour will begin at 6 pm, followed by dinner at 7:00. Hope to see everyone there! If anyone has any photos I can use to develop a pictorial history of the club, please let me know (email@example.com) and/or e-mail any digital photos.
The Business Meeting will be held on Monday, October 7 and will begin at 7:00.
On Friday, October 4 the Lions Club will be host to the Red Cross Blood Drive. Lions are needed to assist and can volunteer by getting in touch with secretary Pat Strickland. The hours of the Blood Drive are from one to six in the afternoon, and while appointments are not necessary, they are recommended.
This year we will have two dates for getting the Raffle letters ready for mailing — otherwise know as the “stuffing party.” The first will be on Friday, October 18th from 9:00 – 11:00 am and the second will be the following Friday, October 25th, from 10:00 – noon. The more people who volunteer to help, the more fun and the quicker we can accomplish the task. Contact Eileen Zewski (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you can help either date or both, or sign up at the Business Meeting.
The Lions Club Raffle Committee, under the excellent leadership of Eileen Zewski, has already been planning and ordering tickets. Dates when we are going to need Lions to sell tickets are as follows: Thursday, July 4 at the Town Picnic; all the rest of the dates will be at E.M. Heath’s Supermarket: Sunday, July 7 ; Saturday, July 20 ; Saturday, August 17, Saturday, August, 31, Saturday, September 21; Saturday, October 21.
Volunteer early for the date that best fits your schedule. We already have two people signed up for September 21. The shifts for each two volunteers are from 9:30 – 12:00 or 12:00 – 2:30, except on Saturday, August 21 when the shifts will be from noon – 2:00 and 2:00 – 4:00. Sign-ups sheets will be available at the business and dinner meetings; however, why not e-mail the Zewskis (email@example.com) or me (firstname.lastname@example.org) ahead of time. It would be great to have all the sign-ups complete by mid-July !!!!!!!!
We plan to have two different mailing dates. More about that after we have determined the specific dates.
Every summer and into the fall, you will find smiling members of the Lions club offering you a chance to win $5,000. They will be wearing yellow aprons and are happy to speak to you at EM Heath’s or Aubuchon’s. The winning ticket is drawn at the annual Moultonborough Christmas Fair on the first Saturday in December.
The money earned (over the prize money) goes into the scholarship fund for local high school seniors. A little over $10,000 has been awarded in the past few years.
Below is a photo of the 2012 winner:
We will be looking for members to sign up to sell the lucky tickets come summer. You will be able to sign up for dates and times here when we get closer to the summer.
