December Happenings

The business meeting will be held on Monday, December 2 at 7 pm.

The Christmas Party will be held on Monday, December 9 (in place of our regular dinner meeting).  This is a combined party with the Women’s Club.  Social hour to begin at 6 pm, followed by a roast pork dinner at 7 pm (at $12 per person). More information in terms of  entertainment will follow.  As in the past, we will hold a gift raffle and members of both Clubs are reminded to bring in new or gently used unwrapped gifts to be chosen by the raffle winners.

We will need members to help decorate for the the festivities on Friday, December 6, starting at 1 pm in the Lions Hall.  If you can help, we would love to see you there.

50th Anniversary Celebration a Success!

The Club’s 50th Anniversary dinner celebration was held last Saturday evening to a crowd of about 76 people — members of the club as well as visiting club members and dignitaries at the State and International levels. A slide show of past memories played through the cocktail hour which was followed by a delicious dinner prepared by Curt’s Caterers.

After the dinner three new members were inducted into the club: Michelle and Christopher Shipp and John Menken. Mike and Kate Lancor were their sponsors.

May Meeting / What’s happening this summer…

The May dinner meeting of the Lions Club was highly entertaining and very informative.  The program was entitled, Good Old Summer Time, and featured speakers from five venues.  Each presentation was not only filled with information on all the activities planned this summer for toddlers through seniors, but was also done with humor and delightful anecdotes.  From left to right in the photo below the speakers were:  Julia Velie (who has organized a three concert series, featuring the youth of the community);  Donna Kuethe and Dan Sturgeon from the Moultonborough Recreation Department (there are even more activities, trips, and lessons this summer, including concerts at the Lion’s Club Gazebo); Betty Alcott from the Town of Sandwich (talking about the special 250 year celebration activities, including several days of Native American festivities); Judy Knowles and Sharon Gulla representing the Moultonborough Public Library (highlighting the children’s summer programs and the free computer lessons): and Bonnie Donahue from Castle in the Clouds (discussing the special programs as well as the free activities at that location).  People who missed the meeting should check out the websites and on-line calendars for these organizations as well as the pamphlets and flyers may of these organizations have available.

The dinner prepared by Donna Grow as well as the plentiful and tasty appetizers prepared by members of the Lions Club were delicious.  The photo below taken at the dinner meeting will also give you a glimpse of the hall renovations – the newly painted wall and the brand new curtains.

Bunco Night

This fun event is sponsored by the Women’s Club and is one of the Club’s scholarship fund-raisers.  Bunco is a fast-paced dice game that is easy to learn.  One switches tables and partners based on winning or losing at the table, so it is a great way to meet others in the community.  The Women’s Club provides excellent refreshments and soda; it is also a BYOB event if you wish.  There are CASH prizes if the lure of a good social time is not enough incentive.  Come.  Bring friends.  Enjoy!
