Welcome!

Welcome to the NEW Lion’s club website. This site is powered by WordPress and GoDaddy.com but updated and maintained by a Lions’ Club member. We will be adding content to this site in the coming days and weeks so please check back often to see what has been added. A calendar has been added on the top of the main page and it will list events as they become available.

At the side is a quick slideshow that has a few Scout photos. The Lions Club is the charter organization of Pack 369 and Troop 142.

Celebrating 50 Years of Being a Lion

Last year, one of our members celebrated his 50th year of serving his community as a Lion.  Shown in the photo below is President Ed Meskys with Lion Bob Purdy and his wife, Betty who, while not an “official” Lion has worked tirelessly for the club as well.  Congratulations and thanks go to the Purdys!

Lions Raffle

Every summer and into the fall, you will find smiling members of the Lions club offering you a chance to win $5,000.  They will be wearing yellow aprons and are happy to speak to you at EM Heath’s or Aubuchon’s.  The winning ticket is drawn at the annual Moultonborough Christmas Fair on the first Saturday in December.

The money earned (over the prize money) goes into the scholarship fund for local high school seniors.  A little over $10,000 has been awarded in the past few years.

We will be looking for members to sign up to sell the lucky tickets come summer.  You will be able to sign up for dates and times here when we get closer to the summer.

Dinner Meetings

The third Monday of the month is usually when the Moultonborough Lion’s Club holds its dinner meetings.  The evening starts at six with h’ors d’oeuvres provided by the members and a cash bar; dinner begins around seven pm and is often followed by a speaker.  Attending a dinner meeting is a great way to meet and social with current members.

Special dinners are held as well.  Once a year, the Bingo Babes (club members supporting the Bingo games held at the club house) cook a delicious dinner and serve it.

Lion of the Year

The Lion of the Year award is chosen by the club president and is a great honor to those members who receive it.  Just some of the criteria used in selecting candidates are:  participation in activities, membership development, programs, committees, and the community, serving as an officer, dependability, sincerity of purpose, positive attitude and leadership, plus demonstrated abilities in communication and organization.

Two of the most recent recipients of this honor are Joe Keegan and Joe Quaresima shown below.

Sutherland Park Service Project

Dedicated to James Sutherland in 2000, Sutherland Park is a beautiful spot to sit and appreciate nature, take a trail walk, or launch a canoe or kayak.  The Moultonborough Lions Club, along with Aubuchon’s Mark Tuckerman, chose this spot for its Adopt-a-Spot and has been weeding, planting, cutting bush, and other beautification tasks for several years with the help of local Scouts and the Moultonborough Academy Middle School students.

Come next spring we will be looking for members (and potential new members) to help us with this project.  Check here for date, time, and sign up.

Melvin Jones Honorees

Lions Clubs worldwide recognize outstanding individual members by bestowing on them an award named for the founder of Lionism, Melvin Jones.  This award is the highest form of recognition and embodies humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism.  The recipient of this award, chosen by past honorees is a model of exemplary service to his club and the community which it serves.

We are proud to have within our past and current membership at least eight individuals who have received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award.  Pictured below are Mike Lancor (’11), Betty Wasson, and in the group photo (from left to right): Ed Dobson, Pat Strickland, Jim Guppy, Bob Purdy, Charlie Strickland and George Costello.
